FISSURED TONGUE  SCROTAL

TONGUE

Fissured tongue is a normal variant seen in up to 5 percent to 11 percent of individuals. Numerous small irregular fissures are oriented laterally on the dorsal tongue . It is also a classic but nonspecific feature of Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome [see Granulomatous Cheilitis (Cheilitis Granulomatosa)] and may be seen in psoriasis, Down syndrome, acromegaly, and Sjögren syndrome. Food particles may become trapped and bacterial overgrowth may occur. Thus, regular brushing of the tongue should be emphasized
